During the first race with the wind blowing between 10-13 mph. Lainey made the weather mark first then popped her spinnaker for the reach to the second mark. She was only about a boat length ahead of the crew from my school with two other boats behind them. By the time they reached the second mark my guys established an inside over-lap on Lainey and forced her wide to take the lead. She then went low for awhile on the next leg while they reached straight for the third mark She was able to carry her chute on a higher reach and got them again at the mark. Ron McHenry set a once around windward, leeward, windward. So at that point she tacked with my guys to cover and held on to win the race by less then a boat length. I won't give you the complete blow by blow but on the second race she was in third place approaching the finish line with Sarah Stewart, Fred's daughter in second. Sarah has a clear shot for the finish line on starboard and lainey is on port coming up to the finish line but she will have to tack to make the line. It is clear that Sarah will take second place if nothing great happens. Just then a gust comes up and hits Lainey first and she is on a collision course with Sarah, at the last second she tacks over onto starboard and lee-bows Sarah to take second place from her. That sequence of pictures we caught with the digital camera and they are pictures 26 27 28 in that order. Afterwards I asked where she saw that and she said she remembers you doing that with her a couple of times at the Sam Myers Regatta. Anyway the racing between Sarah, Grahm Schaffer, and Lainey was pretty close but Lainey got the consistent numbers in the end and won the cup. I will be running a series of on day race weekends in the spring and you are more then welcome to attend and help with the training of these students. Fred, and Duncan helped this year by attending two of our training sessions and they taight the students how to fly their spinnakers. I think they are to the point that they just have to get out on the water and sail their boats now. The rest will take care of itself. Lainey'd boat is back in the shop here drying out. Pat Crump is making a visit to our school to measure the boat and he will address the group of students from our school at Brentwood High School on how to build and restore these boats. I don't see too much wrong with her boat but you really don't know until a measurer puts the tape to it how good a job we actually did. Oh well like I said, enjoy the photo's and we hope to see you on the water in the spring.
